About the work
A lost SūnWú 孫吳 zǐbù treatise attributed to Zhūgě Kè 諸葛恪, the senior Wú regent (and nephew of Zhūgě Liàng 諸葛亮). Reconstructed from quotations in 《事類賦·箭賦》, 《北堂書鈔》, 《太平御覽》 and from Péi Sōngzhī’s commentary to 《吳志·恪本傳》. Not in the Sìkù quánshū; sourced from CHANT (CH2a1470).
Abstract
The Zhūgězǐ is one of the few zǐ-house texts attributable to a top-ranking SūnWú minister of the mid 3rd century. Zhūgě Kè was the eldest son of Zhūgě Jǐn 諸葛瑾 (Wú minister and elder brother of Zhūgě Liàng); after the death of Sūn Quán in 252 he became regent for Sūn Liàng 孫亮 but was executed the following year in the coup led by Sūn Jùn 孫峻. His biography is Sānguó zhì 三國志 j. 64. The dates 203–253 follow the Sānguó zhì notice. The surviving fragments of the Zhūgězǐ are heterogeneous — short moral aphorisms, observations on military strategy (the Yáo gē fù 《樂哥賦》 citation in Shìlèi fù is particularly memorable), and discussions of court protocol. The work is treated by some early bibliographers as effectively a posthumous compilation of his letters and memorials. The composition window is bracketed by his political career (222–253); the received recension is a 19th-century jíyì.
