Nànjīng běnyì 難經本義

The Original Meaning of the Classic of Difficulties (parallel impression) by 滑壽 (Huá Shòu, Bórén 伯仁, fl. late 元 to early 明) — author

About the work

This entry is the second jicheng.tw impression of 滑壽 Huá Shòu’s Nànjīng běnyì — the same text as KR3ea060 but a different transmitted block-print witness preserved in the jicheng.tw dataset. The two entries are paired in the catalog because the jicheng.tw compilers retained both witnesses; substantive textual variation between the two is minor (chiefly typographical and pagination-level) and there is no doctrinal divergence. For the full discussion of the work — provenance, dating, authorship, editorial method, Sìkù reception, modern editions — see the primary entry at KR3ea060.

Abstract

For the substantive abstract, see KR3ea060. The present entry preserves the catalog’s distinction between two transmitted witnesses without duplicating the content; the textual significance of the parallel impression lies in collation, not in re-composition. The composition window is identical: 1361 (Huá’s self-preface) – 1366 (likely range of completion of the secondary apparatus), with Zhāng Zhù’s 張翥 1364 preface as the principal external dating reference. See also the canonical Sìkù WYG witness at KR3e0004.

Translations and research

See KR3ea060 for the full bibliography. The principal modern critical editions, Paul U. Unschuld’s Medicine in China: Nan-ching (Berkeley, 1986) English translation, and Liào Yùqún’s Chónggòu Nànjīng (2002) philological reconstruction all base their work on a collation of the available impressions of the Běnyì tradition, of which the present jicheng.tw witness is one.
