About the work
A one-juan mnemonic-verse appendix to the Mài xiàng tǒng lèi KR3eb027, composing for each of the twenty-seven pulse-types a heptasyllabic mnemonic shī 詩 spelling out its pathological associations. The work is explicitly framed by Shěn Jīn’áo as a remedy for the limitations of his own prose treatment in the Tǒng lèi: “the prose treatment of zhǔ bìng is comprehensive but unmemorable; following the Bīnhú [Lǐ Shízhēn] practice, I have now composed twenty-seven verses to be committed to memory.” The book is best read as the verse counterpart of the Mài xiàng tǒng lèi; together they form Shěn’s pulse-curriculum within the larger Shěn shì zùnshēng shū.
Prefaces
KR3eb028_000.txt opens with a brief authorial note announcing the project (quoted above) and then proceeds directly to the verses. No separate dated preface is preserved in the jicheng.tw file; the date follows the parent Shěn shì zùnshēng shū (1773).
Abstract
The mnemonic-verse form deliberately echoes Lǐ Shízhēn’s KR3eb014 Bīnhú mài xué — Shěn names “Bīnhú mài jué” as his explicit model — but adopts a more austere structure: one pulse per verse, four lines per pulse, focused exclusively on disease associations. For the cosmological and theoretical material Shěn refers readers to the Tǒng lèi. The work was widely used in late-Qing medical pedagogy alongside the Bīnhú and the Zhěn jiā zhèng yǎn KR3eb020.
