About the work
A six-juan early-Míng (1445) compendium on Shānghán clinical practice by the Hángzhōu physician 陶華 Táo Huá (字 Shàngwén 尚文, 號 Jiéān 節庵). The work — comprising six independent treatises bound as a set — is one of the foundational Míng-period Shānghán works and was central to the Míng medical curriculum prior to the Tiáo biàn / Shàng lùn piān revisionist movement of the late 16th and early 17th centuries.
Abstract
The six constituent treatises are: Shānghán suǒ yǐn 傷寒鎖隱, Shānghán jiā mì 傷寒家秘, Shānghán liù shū jué 傷寒六書訣, Yī yào liào liè 殺車槌法, Yī yào yāo zhǐ 一提金, and Tì Tóng jué 截江網. Composition date 1445 is given by Táo’s preface. Táo’s work synthesizes 成無己 Chéng Wúyǐ’s Shānghán doctrine with JīnYuán adjustments from 劉完素 Liú Wánsù’s school, producing a unified clinical handbook that was widely reprinted through the Míng and into the early Qīng.
