Shānghán lùn biànzhèng guǎng zhù 傷寒論辯證廣註

Discriminating-Syndrome Extensive Commentary on the Treatise on Cold Damage by 汪琥 (Wāng Hù, Yìnxí 苓友, hào Yìnxí Lǎorén 苓友老人, fl. late Kāngxī, 清)

About the work

A fourteen-juan early-Kāngxī (1680) extensive commentary on the Shānghán lùn by the Sūzhōu physician 汪琥 Wāng Hù. The work — emphasizing the precise discrimination of clinical syndrome (辯證) as the foundation of Shānghán practice — is paired with Wāng’s companion Zhōnghán lùn biànzhèng guǎng zhù (KR3ef046) on the parallel “zhōnghán” (central / true cold-damage) tradition.

Abstract

Composition date 1680 (Kāngxī 19) given by Wāng’s preface. Wāng was a Sūzhōu contemporary of 尤怡 Yóu Yí and the broader early-Kāngxī Jiāngnán medical circle. His commentary is moderately revisionist — accepting some of the 方有執 Fāng Yǒuzhí / 喻昌 Yú Chāng restoration line while retaining selected 成無己 Chéng Wúyǐ glosses — and is distinguished by the depth of its clinical exemplification: each section pairs canonical text with detailed clinical case-discussion. The work circulated in Qīng prints through the 18th century and was reissued in Republican-era medical anthologies.
