Shǔzhèng fāyuán 暑症發原

Tracing the Origins of Summer-Heat Disorders by 李識候 (Lǐ Shíhòu, 清)

About the work

A late-Qīng monograph dedicated to summer-heat disorder (shǔzhèng 暑症 / shǔbìng 暑病), in 1 juǎn. The text takes its place in the cluster of Qīng wēnbìng-tradition monographs on summer-heat — alongside the earlier base-text 張鳳逵 Zhāng Fèngkuí’s Shāngshǔ quánshū (KR3eg005) and the canonical treatment of shǔwēn in the wēnbìng synthesis (cf. Wēnbìng tiáobiàn, Wēnrè jīngwěi).

Abstract

Summer-heat is one of the four principal warm-disease categories in the Qīng wēnbìng synthesis, alongside fēngwēn 風溫, shīwēn 濕溫, and wēnyì 溫疫. Lǐ Shíhòu’s monograph systematically traces the doctrinal origins of summer-heat back through the canonical Nèijīng loci (Sùwèn “Rèlùn” 熱論 etc.) and provides a syndrome-discriminating clinical apparatus.

Dating and authorial detail are not preserved. The text is conventionally placed in the late Qīng on doctrinal grounds. No CBDB record exists for the author.
