About the work
Zhāng Yàosūn’s own revised redaction of his earlier Chǎnyùn jí 產孕集 (KR3ei059), prepared in the late Dàoguāng / Xiánfēng period (1850s, before Zhāng’s death in 1863). The revised edition incorporates clinical-experience additions from Zhāng’s medical practice during his retreat at Wǔchāng during the Tàipíng disturbances, and reorganises the original tripartite huáitāi / línchǎn / chǎnhòu scheme with finer-grained subdivisions and a more extensive jiājiǎn (additions-and-subtractions) apparatus for each principal prescription.
Abstract
The hxwd recension of KR3ei060 carries the base-edition indicator BASEEDITION: T (i.e. a T-series base) — i.e. derives from a Tóngzhì / Guāngxù era print rather than the earlier Dàoguāng witness. The catalog meta records only Zhāng Yàosūn as author, identifying the work explicitly as a revised redaction (chóngdìng) of KR3ei059. The composition window is bracketed to 1850–1863 — after the original Chǎnyùn jí and before Zhāng’s death.
The relationship between the two recensions is that of author’s working-copy and final author-revised text. Both are preserved in the Hǎiwài huíguī series. The textual relationship between them has not been the object of detailed Chinese-medicine philological study, and is one of several outstanding tasks in late-Qīng obstetrical-literature criticism.
