About the work
The paediatric section of 鄭玉壇 Zhèng Yùtán’s (hào Tóngyuán 彤園, fl. Jiāqìng era) collected medical cóngshū the Tóngyuán yīshū 彤園醫書 (Tóngyuán Medical Books, a multi-work corpus including paediatrics, gynaecology, and adult internal medicine, c. 1796–1820). Zhèng Yùtán was a Qīng paediatric and gynaecological specialist of the Qiánlóng — Jiāqìng generation; his collected cóngshū is one of the principal Qīng-period medical-publishing achievements of the regional physician-authors. The paediatric volume covers the standard paediatric disease-range in six juǎn.

The Zhèng-family Tóngyuán corpus is typically prefaced as a whole, with paediatric volume prefaces sometimes preserved separately. Abstract
The Tóngyuán yīshū · Xiǎo’érkē is the paediatric section of Zhèng Yùtán’s collected medical cóngshū. Zhèng’s writings exemplify the late-eighteenth-century / early-nineteenth-century jiāfāng 家方 (household-formulary) Qīng medical synthesis: prescriptions drawn from his Húnán-region clinical practice (Zhèng was of Húnán origin), framed in the conventional 錢乙 Qián Yǐ paediatric zàngfǔ doctrine, but more inclined toward the wēnbǔ 溫補 (warming-supplementing) school of 張景岳 Zhāng Jǐngyuè and the Yīzōng jīnjiàn imperial orthodoxy than toward the polemical 陳復正 Chén Fùzhèng jīng / chù paediatric reform. The six juǎn cover the standard paediatric disease-range: neonatal disorders, jīngfēng 驚風, gān 疳, Shānghán and the six external pathogens, mádòu 麻痘 (measles-and-smallpox), xièlì 瀉痢 (diarrhoea-dysentery), and miscellaneous disorders. Date bracket: 1796 (Jiāqìng 1, conventional terminus a quo for Zhèng’s principal writing period) to 1820 (the Tóngyuán corpus dates to before Dàoguāng).
