Lóngshā bājiā yīàn 龍砂八家醫案
Medical Case Records of the Eight Masters of Lóngshā edited by 姜成芝 Jiāng Chéngzhī 姜成芝 (mid-Qīng compiler).
About the work
An eight-juǎn anthology of cases by eight physicians of the Lóngshā 龍砂 medical lineage of Jiāngyīn 江陰 (Jiāngsū) — one of the principal Jiāngnán family-medicine traditions of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The opening of the hxwd _000.txt is a section headed Qī Yúnménxiānshēng fāngàn 戚雲門先生方案 (“Case-and-prescription records of Mr Qī Yúnmén”; zì Chǔsān 楚三) — the first of the eight masters. The compilation thus presents the Lóngshā tradition in canonical eight-fold form, with each juǎn devoted to one master.
The “Lóngshā” of the title is the Jiāngyīn medical compound of that name — a multi-generational hereditary medical lineage with branches reaching down to 柳寶詒 Liǔ Bǎoyí (himself a Jiāngyīn physician). The “eight masters” canonically include Qī Yúnmén 戚雲門, Wáng Zhōngyuē 王鍾岳, Yè Pàshàn 葉霈山, Jiāng Lìzhāi 姜禮齋, Chéng Màoxiān 程懋先, and others; the precise roster varies between recensions.
Prefaces
The hxwd _000.txt opens directly with the case material of the first master (Qī Yúnmén), without a separate front-of-anthology preface. No formal preface in _000.txt.
Abstract
Jiāng Chéngzhī 姜成芝 (mid-Qīng compiler) is otherwise obscure beyond his editorial role. The conventional dating places the compilation in the mid-nineteenth century, by which time the Lóngshā tradition had reached its mature form. The composition window 1750–1850 reflects the temporal range of the eight masters’ clinical practice and the conventional date of the compilation.
The work is the principal documentary source for the Lóngshā medical tradition and one of several regional Jiāngnán “eight-masters” / “X-masters” anthologies that became a recognised mid-to-late Qīng casebook form (compare the Shàoxīng wēnbìng bājiā 紹興溫病八家 framework that organises KR3ep004 Shào Lánsūn yīàn and related Shàoxīng material).
