Huíxī yīàn àn 洄溪醫案按
Annotated Edition of the Huíxī Medical Case Records by 徐大椿 Xú Dàchūn — original cases; commentary by 王士雄 Wáng Mèngyīng.
About the work
A single-juǎn annotated edition of KR3ep087 Huíxī yīàn, with the original cases reproduced and Wáng Mèngyīng’s ànyǔ (按語) commentary appended to each case. This represents a separately-transmitted variant of the same Wáng-edited Xú Dàchūn casebook, expanded with 許辛木 Xǔ Xīnmù’s editorial correspondence on textual matters and Xú Dàchūn’s correspondence with the high official Jiǎng 蔣中堂 reproduced as appended material.
Prefaces
The hxwd _000.txt reproduces Wáng Mèngyīng’s 1855 preface (identical to that of KR3ep087) and adds an attached correspondence (附刻) by 許辛木 Xǔ Xīnmù (the Ministry-of-Agriculture official). Xǔ Xīnmù’s letter reports: “I have returned the two volumes of medical books, though I am ignorant of these matters. For the Huíxī àn I have corrected only a few errors and forwarded the manuscript to my relative 吳葆山 Wú Bǎoshān. His medical learning is in the same rank as Wáng Mèngyīng’s; he greatly praised the work as ‘penetrating insight by a divine hand’ and immediately transcribed a fair copy for himself, also correcting a few more characters.” Xǔ’s letter also discusses the 瘍科選粹 Yángkē xuǎncuì batch-edits attributed to Xú Dàchūn — confirming Xú’s hand on the Zhèngzōng commentary.
Abstract
The text is essentially KR3ep087 expanded with editorial-correspondence apparatus. The Wáng Mèngyīng ànyǔ is the same; the additional Xǔ Xīnmù letter is an important contemporary witness to the 1855–1860 textual recovery and validation of the Xú Dàchūn casebook. Wú Bǎoshān (a Wáng-Mèngyīng-school colleague) functioned as a quality-control reader for the Xú text.
The composition window 1855–1900 brackets the editorial-recovery period and circulation.
