Preface to the Miscellaneous Discussions of Clinical Experience (anonymous late-Qīng to early-Republican-era physician).
About the work
A one-juǎn anonymous late-Qīng or early-Republican-era clinical handbook organised as a sequence of lùn 論 (topical discourses) prefacing a body of yīàn 醫案 (case-records). The catalog title gives only the xù (preface) portion of what was clearly conceived as a two-part work: the Jīnglì zálùn proper (the body of medical-experience discourses) followed by the case-records. The available transcription preserves principally the discursive section.
The work’s title is glossed by the author at the opening: lǎomǎ shítú yǐ qí jīnglì duō yě 老馬識途以其經歷多也 — “the old horse knows the road because of its long experience” — and the proverb shú dú Wáng Shūhé bùrú línzhèng duō 熟讀王叔和不如臨症多 (“reading Wáng Shūhé through is not as good as treating many cases”). The author’s stated method is to deliberately depart from the gǔfāng gǔfǎ 古方古法 (ancient formulae and methods) when these prove ineffective and to record the alternative protocols that worked.

Zhèngmíng lùn 正名論 (On Correcting Names): a long polemic against the confused medical nomenclature of late-Qīng practice, distinguishing zǒngmíng 總名 (general categories) from zhuānmíng 專名 (specific names) and listing dozens of late-Imperial wěimíng 偽名 (false names) — fāshā 發痧 for huòluàn, zǐwǔ shā 子午痧 / biēluó shā 癟螺痧 / zhuànjīn diàojiǎo shā 轉筋吊腳痧 / jiǎocháng shā 絞腸痧 as regional folk-names; jíjīng 急驚 / mànjīng 慢驚 / jīngfēng 驚風 as paediatric folk-coinages; the regional dialectal píhán 脾寒 (Sūzhōu for nüè), guǐtōuròu 鬼偷肉 (Nánjīng for biēluó shā).

Topical discourses on classes of disease: qì (with sub-classes qìxū, qìshí, qìyù, qìfù, qìjí); xuè (xuèxū, xuèyū, xuèzhàng, xuèyì); tán (tánjié, tánhé, tányǐn, tánqì liúzhù, tánbì, tánzǔ, tánjué); and shí (shíjī, shípǐ, shēnglěng shāng pí, shífù shī).
The discourses are interpolated with parenthetical notes signed Ān àn 安按 (“[the editor] Ān notes”), indicating an editorial second hand — possibly a disciple or later editor whose surname or míng contains the character Ān 安 (the practice of self-signing with a single character was common in late-Qīng / Republican editing).

Abstract
The work is undated and anonymous, with no author specified in the catalog or in the surviving paratext. The intellectual position — explicit polemic against late-Imperial nosological confusion, programmatic zhèngmíng methodology, integration of liùyín / qìxuètánshí doctrinal categories — places the work in the late Qīng (Tóngzhì / Guāngxù era) through early Republican period. The conservative bracket 1800–1920 is adopted here.
The editorial Ān àn notes interspersed in the text suggest a later compilation-and-publication phase, possibly through the Republican-period TCM-text reprinting movement (the Sānsān yīshū or similar series). The hxwd recension descends from a Japanese imprint of one of these reprints.
The text is rare in modern Chinese-medical bibliography and is preserved primarily through the Jìchéng 笈成 medical-canon series and the hxwd repatriation.
Translations and research
No European-language translation or substantial secondary study of the Jīng-lì zá-lùn located. The work is not treated in the standard English-language histories of late-Qīng medicine.

The work’s Zhèngmíng lùn is one of the more substantial late-Qīng nosological-critique documents, providing a roll-call of late-Imperial regional dialectal disease-names (fāshā 發痧, zǐwǔ shā 子午痧, biēluó shā 癟螺痧, zhuànjīn diàojiǎo shā 轉筋吊腳痧, jiǎocháng shā 絞腸痧, guǐtōuròu 鬼偷肉, etc.) and an explicit philosophical-methodological reduction of these to canonical Chinese-medical nosology.
