Yījīng dàzhǐ 醫經大旨
The Great Purport of the Medical Classics by 賀岳 Hè Yuè (zì Rǔzhān 汝瞻, mid-Míng physician of Hǎiyán 海鹽, Zhèjiāng).
About the work
A four-juǎn mid-Míng systematisation of medical doctrine in 89 disease-categories (zhōngfēng 中風, shānghán 傷寒, wēnyì 瘟疫, zábìng 雜病, fùrén 婦人, xiǎoér 小兒, etc.), each developed from Huángdì nèijīng-derived doctrine with selective citation of Zhū Dānxī’s clinical-case records. First printed in Jiājìng 35 / 1556. The work is best understood as a Dān-xī-school nosology in Nèijīng exegetical guise — Hè Yuè was the scion of the Hè family of Hǎiyán physicians who carried on the post-Dān-xī mainstream of Zhèjiāng medical practice.
Hè’s other documented works — Míngyī huìyào 明醫會要, Yàoxìng zhǔnshéng 藥性準繩, Zhěnmài jiābǎo 診脈家寶 — are mostly lost; the Yījīng dàzhǐ is his principal surviving treatise.
Prefaces
The hxwd _001.txt is header-only and does not transcribe the body or prefatory matter. External bibliographic sources confirm the 1556 editio princeps date.
Abstract
Hè Yuè’s lifedates are not securely fixed; the 1556 Jiājìng 35 editio princeps is the firm anchor. The Hǎiyán Hè family was a documented Zhèjiāng hereditary medical lineage of the mid- to late-Míng (cf. the well-known Hǎiyán Hèshì zōngpǔ 海鹽賀氏宗譜). Not in CBDB.
The work was preserved through Japanese imprint and repatriated via the hxwd series.
Translations and research
No European-language translation of the Yī-jīng dà-zhǐ located. For mid-Míng Zhè-jiāng medical lineage genealogy see Volker Scheid, Currents of Tradition (Eastland, 2007), and the regional medical-history studies of Chao Yuan-ling (for nearby Sū-zhōu).
