About the work
A reconstructed collection (jíyìběn 輯佚本) of the literary writings of Xiàhóu Zhàn 夏侯湛 (ca. 243–291 CE), Western Jìn 西晉 literary official and author of elaborate fù 賦 and verse. Organized in two juǎn, the surviving fragments are cited in the Wénxuǎn 文選 and Tàipíng yùlǎn 太平御覽. Xiahou Zhan was a close friend of Pān Yuè 潘岳 (KR4b0034), with whom he co-authored poetry; the two were celebrated together as the twin ornaments of Jìn court literature. His Dōngjīng fù 東京賦 and Áo fù 鼇賦 survive in fragments.

Abstract
Xiàhóu Zhàn 夏侯湛 (ca. 243–291 CE; zì Xiàoruò 孝若) was a Western Jìn literary official from the Jiāolú 譙 region. A member of the aristocratic Xiàhóu 夏侯 clan of the Cáo Wèi founders, he served in various court positions and was known as one of the outstanding literary stylists of the early Western Jìn. He was the close friend and literary collaborator of Pān Yuè 潘岳, and the two were frequently mentioned together in literary criticism. His biography is in Jìnshū 晉書 juǎn 55. The Suíshū Jīngjízhì 隋書經籍志 records a Xiàhóu Zhàn jí in seventeen juǎn, most of which is lost. Zhāng Pǔ 張溥 included a Xiàhóu xiàoruò jí 夏侯孝若集 in his Hàn Wèi Liùcháo bǎisān jiā jí 漢魏六朝百三家集. The present reconstruction gathers fragments from encyclopaedic sources and commentary traditions.
