Xiè Huì jí 謝晦集
Collected Works of Xie Hui (Reconstructed) by 謝晦 (撰)
About the work
A reconstructed collection (jíyìběn 輯佚本) of the literary writings of Xiè Huì 謝晦 (390–426 CE), Liú Sòng 劉宋 general and founding-era official. The fragments — gathered in one juǎn — are drawn primarily from the Sòngshū 宋書 biography of Xie Hui (juǎn 44) and from his musical compositions preserved in Sòngshū Yuèzhì 宋書樂志 and Yuèfǔ shījí 樂府詩集 juǎn 19. The most substantial surviving literary output is his set of 〈鼓吹鐃歌十五首〉 (Fifteen Military-Music Songs with Cymbals and Horns), which reflect his military career and the triumphalist culture of the early Liu Song court.

Abstract
Xiè Huì 謝晦 (390–426 CE; zì Xuǎnmíng 宣明; CBDB id 497210) was a Liú Sòng 劉宋 official and general from Chéngjùn 陳郡 Yángxià 陽夏. He was one of the principal military commanders who backed Liú Yù 劉裕 in the establishment of the Liu Song dynasty and rose to hold high military commands including Commander-in-Chief (dū duū 都督) of Jīng 荊 and Yù 豫 regions. After Emperor Wén 文帝 took power, Xie Hui launched a rebellion in 426 CE and was executed. His biography is in Sòngshū 宋書 juǎn 44 and Nán shǐ 南史 juǎn 19.
His 〈鼓吹鐃歌十五首〉 were composed for the military music ensemble (gǔchuī 鼓吹) that accompanied Liú Yù’s campaigns. These songs celebrate military victories and the founding of the dynasty in the tradition of the Han-dynasty military hymns in the Yuèfǔ 樂府 genre. They are preserved in the Sòngshū Yuèzhì and the Yuèfǔ shījí. Zhāng Pǔ 張溥 included a Xiè Xuǎnmíng jí 謝宣明集 in the Hàn Wèi Liùcháo bǎisān jiā jí 漢魏六朝百三家集.
