About the work
A reconstructed collection (jíyìběn 輯佚本) of the literary writings of Kǒng Zhìguī 孔稚珪 (ca. 447–501 CE), Southern Qí 南齊 official and literary figure, author of the celebrated prose piece 〈北山移文〉 (The Proclamation from Northern Mountain). Organized in two juǎn, the fragments include first-person memorials signed “州民御史中丞孔稚珪啟” and citations from the Nán Qí shū biography (juǎn 48, cited twice) and the Hóng míng jí 弘明集 juǎn 11 (for his Buddhist apologetics). The Yuèfǔ shījí 樂府詩集 juǎn 63 attributes the 〈白馬篇〉 (Ballad of the White Horse) to “孔稚珪《白馬篇》“.

Abstract
Kǒng Zhìguī 孔稚珪 (ca. 447–501 CE; zì Dézhàng 德璋; CBDB: not confirmed for this person) was a Southern Qí official from Kuàijī 會稽 Shānyīn 山陰 (modern Shaoxing, Zhejiang). He served in military and civil capacities including Yùshǐ zhōngchéng 御史中丞 (Censor-in-Chief) under the Southern Qí. His biography is in Nán Qí shū juǎn 48 and Nán shǐ juǎn 49.
His most celebrated work is the 〈北山移文〉 (Proclamation from Northern Mountain), an ironic “letter” written from the perspective of Zhōngnán Mountain 鍾南山 to a recluse (yǐnshì 隱士) who had left his retreat to take office — a brilliant satirical critique of false eremitism. It is preserved in the Wénxuǎn juǎn 38. He also wrote Buddhist apologetics texts preserved in the Hóng míng jí juǎn 11, addressing debates between Buddhism and Daoism. The Suíshū Jīngjízhì records a Kǒng Zhìguī jí in ten juǎn. Zhāng Pǔ 張溥 included a Kǒng Dézhàng jí 孔德璋集 in the Hàn Wèi Liùcháo bǎisān jiā jí 漢魏六朝百三家集.
