Shěn Jiǒng jí 沈炯集
Collected Works of Shen Jiong (Reconstructed) by 沈炯 (撰)
About the work
A reconstructed collection (jíyìběn 輯佚本) of the literary writings of Shěn Jiǒng 沈炯 (502–560 CE), Liáng-Chén 梁陳 transitional official and poet. Organized in two juǎn, the fragments are documented through multiple citations from the Chén shū 陳書 biography (juǎn 19, Shěn Jiǒng zhuàn 沈炯傳, cited at lines 2449 and 2864), with the note “《陳書‧沈炯傳》高祖受禪” (the Chen Gaozu’s abdication-reception ceremony) confirming the Liang-Chen transitional context. The Wànhuā gǔ 萬花谷 anthology (後卷 32 and 後卷 39) attributes multiple poems as “沈炯詩”; the Yìwén lèijù 藝文類聚 juǎn 14 also attributes a text “以為沈炯作” (considered to be Shen Jiong’s work). The editorial apparatus notes that Zhāng Pǔ 張溥, when compiling the Hàn Wèi Liùcháo bǎisān jiā jí, drew on Liángshū Wáng Sēngbiàn zhuàn 王僧辯傳 attributions to supplement the Shěn Jiǒng jí. The collection opens with 〈長安少年行〉 (Ballad of the Young Man of Chang’an) and is cited at Shī jì 詩紀 juǎn 101.

Abstract
Shěn Jiǒng 沈炯 (502–560 CE; zì Chū 初; CBDB id 411992) was a literary official who served first under the Liáng dynasty and then — after the Hou Jing Rebellion and the founding of the Chen — under the Chen. He served under the Liang general Wáng Sēngbiàn 王僧辯 and was present during the tumultuous transfer of power to the Chen dynasty, when Emperor Wu of Chen (Chén Gāozǔ 陳高祖) received the abdication. His biography is in Chén shū juǎn 19 and Nán shǐ juǎn 62.
Shen Jiong’s poetry reflects the experience of the Liang-Chen transition — the fall of Jiangling, the chaos of the Hou Jing rebellion, and the political realignments of the 550s. His verse at Shī jì vol. 101 (the late Liang–early Chen volume) places him chronologically among the generation that lived through the dynasty’s collapse. Zhāng Pǔ 張溥 included a Shěn Jiǒng jí 沈炯集 in the Hàn Wèi Liùcháo bǎisān jiā jí 漢魏六朝百三家集, supplementing it with material from Wáng Sēngbiàn’s biography.
