Sà Tiānxī shījí 薩天錫詩集

Sà Tiān-xī’s Poetry Collection by 薩都拉 (撰)

About the work

The SBCK transmission of Sàdūlā’s 薩都拉 (= 薩都剌) poetry in a 2-juǎn recension, distinct from the WYG Yànmén jí KR4d0514 (3 juǎn + 1 juǎn jíwàishī). The SBCK base reproduces a Yuán-period Yányòu / Tài-dìng-era kèběn recovered in Sòng-line transmission — a separately-circulating shorter poetic selection of Sà’s work using his (Tiānxī) rather than his courtesy place-name (Yànmén). The SBCK title is therefore “Sà Tiānxī shījí” — emphasizing the poetic genres only — vs. the WYG fuller Yànmén jí. The 2-juǎn selection represents Sà’s most-anthologized lyric and záyáng pieces.

Prefaces

The SBCK base reproduces no later editorial layer, the surviving Yuán-period prefaces (Gàn Wénchuán 干文傳, etc.) appearing in the parallel WYG transmission.

Abstract

The SBCK Sà Tiānxī shījí is the more compact alternative transmission of Sàdūlā’s poetry, preserving a selection rather than the fuller corpus. For text-critical purposes the two recensions can be compared profitably; the SBCK is closer to the Yuán-era reading circulation, the WYG is the Sìkùguǎn re-collection. The catalog meta uses the transliteration 薩都剌 (the Yuán-era standard); the Sìkù tíyào uses 薩都拉 (the Qiánlóng xīyīn reform spelling). See KR4d0514 for the full Sìkù tíyào and main biography.

Composition window: 1320–1359 (full poetic career).

Other points of interest

The two-recension transmission of Sàdūlā’s poetry (a Yànmén edition emphasizing geographical identity; a Tiānxī edition emphasizing personal ) is a useful case in the editorial sociology of how a Sèmù / possibly-Hàn poet’s identity was framed in YuánMíng anthology practice.
