About the work
A 4-juǎn surviving prose collection of Shào Hēngzhēn 邵亨貞 (1309–1401). Original output was 16 juǎn combining Éshù shīxuǎn, Éshù cíxuǎn, and Yěchǔ jí — but the shīxuǎn and cíxuǎn are lost; only the present záwén 68 pieces survive. The source-line traces back to a Lù Shēn 陸深 family copy (printed by his grandson Lù Tán 陸郯 with Féng Qiān 馮遷 and Wāng Jì 汪稷 bá).
Tiyao
Yěchǔ jí, 4 juǎn. By Shào Hēngzhēn of the Yuán. Hēngzhēn zì Fùrú. Yáng Shū’s Sōnggùshù: he was a Chúnān man — in Zhì-zhèng-era Sōngjiāng xùndǎo, registered Huátíng. We now examine the collection’s Sòng zúxiōng Ānzhòng huánxiāng xù: “in Zhìyuán the dàfù chǔxiànjūn, fúzhōng shì yú Sòng, huìjì Huátíng biéyè — my late father then shēng Huátíng; in Zhìdé era the dàfù returned for burial; my late father could not move the family back — so to today wéi Huátíng rén.” So his grandfather already had Sōngjiāng registration — Yáng Shū’s account is not fully exact. This biān has Féng Qiān and Wāng Jì bá, saying the book originally was at Shànghǎi Lù Shēn’s family — Shēn’s grandson Lù Tán gave it to Jì for printing — together with Éshù shīxuǎn and Éshù cíxuǎn — total 16 juǎn. Now both shī and cí are no longer transmitted; only this version survives — total záwén 68 pieces. Hēngzhēn served as rúguān, his footsteps never left his hometown — so no xióngpiān jùzhì — to bring out his qíqì. But his prose’s dàzhì qīngkuài, bùfá jǐngrán, still able to shǒu xiānmín yíjǔ (preserve the former-men’s old standards). His shīcí world rarely sees; Táo Zōngyí Náncūn chuògēnglù records Yǒngméimù shàyuánchūn cí 2 — juǎnyǒng qīnglì — pō yǒu kěguān (rather worth seeing). So his cháng yóu zài yú shì (he is most strong at this). Pity that cíxuǎn is now long lost. Respectfully collated.
Abstract
Yěchǔ jí preserves a small but important Sōngjiāng záwén collection straddling the YuánMíng transition. Shào’s cí (now lost) was held in higher regard than his prose; the Sìkù tíyào registers this jí ér jiǔ yǐ yǐ yǐ (regret that the cíxuǎn is long lost). The tíyào’s philological correction of Yáng Shū’s Sōnggùshù regarding Shào’s registration is preserved here. Composition window: from earliest preserved compositions (c. 1330) through to c. 1400 (year of death).
