Abstract
Part Two of Qī Xiá Wǔ Yì continues directly from chapter 61, picking up the narrative of the chivalric heroes under Judge Bao’s moral authority. The text opens with the northern gallant Ōu-yáng Chūn 歐陽春 (北俠) and Dīng Dàyé 丁大爺 discussing a case involving the local bully Mǎ Gāng 馬剛, illustrating the heroes’ characteristic method of covert justice that bypasses official channels while serving moral ends.
The second half of the novel focuses increasingly on the adventures of the individual gallants — particularly the “Five Rats” (五鼠): Zuān-tiān shǔ 鑽天鼠 (the Heaven-Boring Rat), Pò-mào shǔ 破帽鼠, Chuān-shān shǔ 穿山鼠 (the Mountain-Boring Rat), Fān-jiāng shǔ 翻江鼠 (the River-Turning Rat), and Jǐn-máo shǔ 錦毛鼠 — and their interweaving exploits across the domains of martial heroism, righteous banditry, and judicial rectification. The climactic chapters involve the unmasking of treacherous court officials and the vindication of wronged subjects under Bāo Gōng’s supervision.
The chapter range of 61–120 is confirmed by the opening line of the Kanripo text (starting mid-narrative at chapter 61) and the final chapter number (120). The narrative resolution of the full 120-chapter work brings Judge Bao’s campaign for justice to its conclusion.
