Qí Chūnqiū 齊春秋

Spring and Autumn Annals of the Qi anonymous

About the work

Qí Chūnqiū 齊春秋 is a jíyìběn reconstruction of a lost Southern Qí 南齊 dynastic history. Only a single fragment survives, recording that 王儉 (Wáng Jiǎn, 452–489 CE) was not fond of music and women, never joined banquets, and lived frugally, using only what was sufficient for his needs.

Abstract

The Suí Shū 隋書 bibliography lists a Qí Chūnqiū 齊春秋 in 30 juǎn by Wú Jūn 吳均 (469–520 CE), a noted Liáng-dynasty writer and historian. The title was modelled on the ancient Chūnqiū 春秋 (Spring and Autumn Annals), an annalistic chronicle form. Wú Jūn’s history was reportedly disliked by the Liáng court because it recorded events unfavorably, and it was ordered burned. The single surviving fragment, concerning the famed frugality of the Southern Qí statesman Wáng Jiǎn, survives in the Tàipíng Yùlǎn 太平御覽. All other content is lost.
