Abstract
Lù Jī 陸機 (styled Shìhéng 士衡) was a poet, literary critic, and historian of the Western Jin, best known for his Wén Fù 文賦 (Rhapsody on Literature). His service as zhùzuò láng 著作郎 (editorial director) gave him access to court diaries. The surviving fragments of his Huìdì Qǐjūzhù cover: the appointment of Péi Wěi 裴頠 as Palace Attendant (291 CE); the appointment of Wáng Róng 王戎 as Minister Over the Masses and Péi Wěi’s philosophical essays on Chóng Yǒu 崇有 (Venerating Being) and Guì Wú 貴無 (Prizing Non-Being) (297 CE); the seating of princes above the Three Dukes at the Shìqián Hall assembly; the demotion of Crown Prince Yù 遹 to commoner (299 CE); the coup of Zhào Wáng Lún 趙王倫 in 301 CE and the execution of Zhāng Huá and Péi Wěi (with a note on Zhāng Lín’s lineage); a reference to mica screens; and a military standoff between Wáng Jùn 王浚 and Shí Chāo 石超. Sources of preservation include 《三國志》注, 《世說》注, 《宋書》, 《北堂書鈔》, and 《太平御覽》.
Lù Jī was executed in 303 CE during the War of the Eight Princes, and his court diary was lost after the Táng.
