Jìn Hòulüè 晉後略
Summary of the Later Jin by 荀綽
About the work
Jìn Hòulüè 晉後略 (also titled Xún Chuò Jìn Hòulüè 荀綽晉後略) is a jíyìběn reconstruction of a lost historical summary of the middle and later Western Jin period by Xún Chuò 荀綽, a scholar of the Xún clan of Yǐngchuān 潁川. The title suggests it was a concise treatment (lüè 略) of the later part of the dynasty, distinct from the comprehensive annalistic histories.

Abstract
Xún Chuò, styled Yànshū 彥舒, belonged to the prominent Xún 荀 clan of Yǐngchuān, which produced numerous scholars and statesmen throughout the Hàn, Wei, and Jin periods. He held office under the Western Jin and compiled this historical summary along with other works. The Suí Shū 隋書 bibliography records a Jìn Hòulüè in 5 juǎn attributed to Xún Chuò.
The surviving fragments are few, preserved in Táng and Sòng reference works. They cover events of the middle Western Jin, particularly the political turmoil of the late third and early fourth centuries that preceded the fall of the north. Xún Chuò had access to court documents and the early unofficial Jin histories, and his summary was likely one of the sources drawn upon by the later jíyìběn compilers of the larger Jin histories (Wáng Yǐn, Yǔ Yù, Hé Fǎshèng).
