Xīhé Jì 西河記
Record of the Western River by 喻歸
About the work
Xīhé Jì 西河記 (also titled Yù Guī Xīhé Jì 喻歸西河記) is a jíyìběn reconstruction of a lost geographical-historical record of the West of the (Yellow) River region — the Hexi 河西 corridor in modern Gānsù — during the Sixteen Kingdoms period. Yù Guī 喻歸 was an official of one of the Liáng 涼 states (likely Běi Liáng 北涼 or Xī Liáng 西涼). The surviving fragments are modest.

Abstract
The “Western River” (Xīhé 西河) in this context refers to the region west of the Yellow River’s great northern bend, comprising the oases of the Gānsù corridor — a crucial artery for trade, diplomacy, and cultural exchange between China and Central Asia during the Sixteen Kingdoms and Northern Dynasties periods. The Suí Shū 隋書 bibliography records Yù Guī’s Xīhé Jì in 2 juǎn. The surviving fragments cover the geography, administration, and notable events of the region, particularly relating to the Liáng states’ rule over the Hexi oases. They were preserved in the Tàipíng Yùlǎn 太平御覽 and other standard sources.
