Abstract

Wáng Sháozhī (styled Tàiyuán 泰元) was a Liú-Sòng historian who served as a court diarist and compiler. His historical works are otherwise lost; the Xiàozǐ Zhuàn fragments represent one of the few surviving testimonies to his scholarly activity. The fragments include tales of filial children recognized by the state for their devotion, as well as supernatural events triggered by extreme filial grief. They were recovered from Táng and Sòng encyclopedic sources. The text was lost after the Táng.
