Kuàijī Xiānxián Zhuàn 會稽先賢傳
Biographies of Former Worthies of Guiji anonymous
About the work
Kuàijī Xiānxián Zhuàn 會稽先賢傳 is a jíyìběn reconstruction of a lost collection of biographies of “former worthies” (xiānxián 先賢) from Kuàijī 會稽 (modern Shàoxīng, Zhèjiāng). The xiānxián zhuàn 先賢傳 genre was closely related to the qíjiù zhuàn 耆舊傳 (“elders’ biographies”), both being regional biographical collections celebrating local exemplars.

Abstract
Kuàijī was one of the most culturally productive Commanderies of the southeast, home to prominent scholarly lineages such as the Yǔ 虞, Hè 賀, and Kǒng 孔 clans. The Kuàijī Xiānxián Zhuàn recorded the virtuous conduct and official achievements of notable local figures from the Hàn through the early Jin. The surviving fragments are modest, about 150 lines, preserving biographical notices on several local worthies. The text was lost after the Táng.
