Abstract
Cháng Qú’s Zǐtóng Shìnǚ Zhì was structured as a paired record of notable local men (shì 士) and women (nǚ 女), a format that he also employed in the Huáyáng Guó Zhì. Zǐtóng, lying on the route between Chéngdū and the Hànzhōng basin, was an important region in the Chéng-Hàn and Eastern Jin periods. The fragments preserve biographical notices on Zǐtóng natives recognized for official service, scholarly achievement, moral conduct, or (in the case of women) exemplary chastity and domestic virtue. The text was lost after the Táng; the fragments were recovered from Táng and Sòng citations.
