Yùlù dàzhāi dìsānrì zǎocháo yí 玉籙大齋第三日早朝儀
Morning-Audience Liturgy of the Third Day of the Great Jade-Register Fast
About the work
Seventh of the eight-part Yùlù dàzhāi programme (DZ 505 a–h). The morning audience of day 3 opens the concluding day of the fast, the day on which the cumulative merit of the preceding two days of zhuǎnjīng is dedicated to the deceased and the rite is concluded with the jìyōu pànhú 濟幽判斛 closing salvation (KR5b0209).
Abstract
The third-day morning audience follows the established frame (fālú, qǐngchēng fǎwèi, three niǎnxiāng) but with significant new ritual elements directed to the closing of the rite: the xuānbǎng 宣牓 (public proclamation of the rite’s accomplishment), the zhāozhào 召召 summoning of the named gūyōu by name, and a preparatory kāiyù 開獄 (opening of the underworld prisons) sequence that anticipates the final pànhú judgment. The merit of the day is dedicated specifically to the release of the named souls and to the imperial zōngtiào; the orientation is by this point fully toward salvific deliverance.
