About the work
The Fēnbié bùshī jīng is a single-fascicle Northern-Sòng translation of the Dakkhiṇāvibhaṅga-sūtra, a parallel of T60 (the Qútánmí jìguǒ jīng 瞿曇彌記果經 by Huìjiǎn). The Chinese parallel within the Madhyama-āgama is T26[180] (the Qútánmí jīng 瞿曇彌經, alternatively numbered T26[180] in some editions).
The Chinese title 分別布施 (“distinction of giving”) is Shīhù’s analytic gloss of dakṣiṇā-vibhaṅga. The text covers essentially the same material as T60 but with the polished Sòng-Institute idiom.
Prefaces
The text bears no preface or postface. The only paratext is the Sòng-court translator’s signature at the head: 「西天譯經三藏朝奉大夫試鴻臚卿傳法大師臣施護奉詔譯」 (cf. KR6a0008).
Abstract
T84 is one of Shīhù’s series of Sòng-Institute renderings; the defensible bracket 982–1017 is recorded in the frontmatter. The Indic source is presumed lost.
