Fó shuō shuǐmò suǒpiāo jīng 佛說水沫所漂經
Sūtra on What is Carried by the Foam (the Pheṇa-piṇḍūpama-sūtra; parallel to Saṃyukta-āgama sūtra 265, and to T105) by 竺曇無蘭 (Zhú Tánwúlán, 譯)
About the work
The Fó shuō shuǐ-mò suǒ-piāo jīng is a single-fascicle Eastern Jìn 東晉 translation of the Pheṇa-piṇḍūpama-sūtra, a parallel of T105 (An Shigao). The setting differs from T105: T106 places the discourse “by the Ganges, at the watch-tower (觀) built by King Pasenadi” (阿迎闍恒水, with the gloss 波斯匿王所造觀也), rather than at the river-crossing of T105.
Prefaces
The text bears no preface or postface. The only paratext is the Eastern-Jìn translator’s signature at the head: 「東晉西域沙門竺曇無蘭譯」.
Abstract
T106 was produced during Zhú Tánwúlán’s Yangdu translation period (381–395 CE), recorded in the frontmatter. The Indic source is presumed lost.
