About the work
A three-fascicle Northern-Sòng translation of the Sumāgadha-avadāna, much expanded over the brief renderings T128a, T128b and T131. The Chinese title — “Sūtra on the Causes by which Anāthapiṇḍika’s Daughter (給孤長者女) Attained Liberation” — emphasises the karmic causes. The Indic source clearly belongs to the developed avadāna tradition rather than the brief sūtra form.
Prefaces
The text bears no preface or postface. The only paratext is the Sòng-court translator’s signature at the head: 「西天譯經三藏朝奉大夫試光祿…」.
Abstract
T132 is one of Shīhù’s series of Sòng-Institute renderings; the defensible bracket 982–1017 is recorded in the frontmatter. The Indic source is presumed lost.
