A two-juan Tang Huáyán-school commentary on the Vajracchedikā Prajñāpāramitā-sūtra, by Zhìyǎn 智儼 (602–668), the second patriarch of the Huáyán 華嚴 school (the foundational systematizer of Huáyán doctrine, between 杜順 Dùshùn the first patriarch and 法藏 Fǎzàng the third patriarch). notBefore = 640 (Zhìyǎn’s mature scholarly period); notAfter = 668 (Zhìyǎn’s death).
Abstract
Zhìyǎn 智儼 (602–668) was the principal early Huáyán-doctrinal systematizer — establishing the framework of Huáyán yuánjiào doctrine that 法藏 Fǎzàng (643–712) would later bring to its mature systematic form. The present Vajracchedikā commentary applies early Huáyán doctrinal categories to the prajñā sūtra.
