Sìjiào yí jízhù kē 四教儀集註科
Sectional Analysis of the Compiled-Annotations on the Four-Doctrines Manual by 蒙潤 (Méngrùn / Yùgāng, 排定)
About the work
A single-juan sectional analysis (kē 科) by Yùgāng Méngrùn 玉岡蒙潤 (1276–1343) on the Yuán-period combined edition of Dìguān’s Tiāntái sìjiào yí (KR6d0168, T1931) with its principal SòngYuán commentaries (the Sìjiào yí jízhù). The work belongs to the standard Yuán-period editorial pattern of pairing major commentarial works with their structural-outline navigational apparatus.
Prefaces
The text opens with a preface by an unidentified Yuán editor: “The Tiāntái Sìjiào yí is in truth a key way of the doctrinal-gate. From of old to the present, annotators have been many. Some [annotations are] brief and not complete; others are broad and excessively complex. Moreover [some] cut away the body-text and only mark the beginning and end. If not for those who memorise it carefully, none can read [these editions]. Now [I] gather all the parts’ texts, annotated below; would this not benefit those casually consulting?”
Abstract
The composition is bracketed within Méngrùn’s productive period c. 1300–1343.
