About the work
A nine-juan expanded combined-edition of Dìguān’s Tiāntái sìjiào yí (KR6d0168, T1931) with substantial SòngYuánMíng commentary integrated into a unified text, preserved in the Northern Yongle Edition of the Canon (永樂北藏 Yǒnglè běizàng, completed c. 1410–1440) as L189n1629.
Abstract
The Yongle canon recension preserves Dìguān’s original concise Sìjiào yí expanded with substantial SòngYuánMíng commentary into a comprehensive combined-edition apparatus. The work belongs together with the parallel Yongle-canon recension of Jièhuán’s Yàojiě (KR6d0068, L184n1617) as evidence for the Yongle-period editorial practice of producing expanded annotated recensions of major commentarial works.
The dating is bracketed loosely from Dìguān’s original composition (c. 960) through the Yongle canon’s completion (c. 1410).
