Qiānshǒu qiānyǎn dàbēixīn zhòu xíngfǎ 千手千眼大悲心咒行法

Practice-Method of the Thousand-Hand Thousand-Eye Great-Compassion-Heart Dhāraṇī (early-Qīng recension) originally compiled by 知禮 (Zhīlǐ / Sìmíng Zhīlǐ, 始集); re-compiled by 讀體 (Dútǐ / Jiànyuè / Bǎohuáshān master, 重纂)

About the work

A single-juan early-Qīng re-compilation by Jiànyuè Dútǐ 見月讀體 (1601–1679) of Sìmíng Zhīlǐ’s earlier Northern-Sòng Qiānshǒu yǎn dàbēixīn zhòu xíngfǎ (KR6d0200, T1950). The work preserves Zhīlǐ’s foundational Avalokiteśvara dhāraṇī liturgy in early-Qīng recension, providing the standard institutional apparatus for the Bǎohuáshān Vinaya-school’s continued use of the practice.

Abstract

The two-stage editorial production — Zhīlǐ’s Sòng original compilation and Dútǐ’s early-Qīng re-compilation — demonstrates the continuous institutional vitality of the Avalokiteśvara dhāraṇī devotional tradition through more than six centuries of East-Asian Buddhist history.

The dating bracket (996–1679) covers the entire textual development from Zhīlǐ’s original through Dútǐ’s re-compilation.
