Bùkě chànà wú cǐjūn 不可剎那無此君

[One] Cannot for a Moment Be without This Lord by 義銛 (Yìxiān / Pǔwēng Yìxiān, 述)

About the work

A short single-juan Sòng-period treatise by Pǔwēng Yìxiān 朴翁義銛. The title is drawn from the famous bamboo-loving anecdote of 王徽之 Wáng Huīzhī (Eastern Jìn): “One cannot for a moment be without this lord” (referring to bamboo, cǐjūn 此君 = “this lord”). The work uses this literary metaphor as the framing for a Tiāntái doctrinal-meditative discussion.

Abstract

The composition is bracketed within Yìxiān’s productive period in the Sòng (c. 1100–1250).
