About the work
This one-fascicle text is the structural-outline (kē 科) by 師會 Shīhuì of 法藏 Fǎzàng’s [[KR6e0074|Wǔ jiào zhāng 五教章]] (T1866). It serves as the navigational map for Shīhuì’s own [[KR6e0078|Fù gǔ jì 復古記]] (X998) and, by extension, for the parent text of Fǎzàng. The hierarchical heading-format makes the conceptual structure of Fǎzàng’s doxographical schema accessible at a glance.
Prefaces
The work opens with the title-line “華嚴一乘教義分齊章科 / 玉峯沙門 師會 述” — “Sectional outline of the Wǔ jiào zhāng 五教章. Composed by the śramaṇa Shīhuì of Yùfēng 玉峯.”
Abstract
The bracket adopted here (1145 – 1170) reflects 師會 Shīhuì’s mature scholarly period at the Yùfēng 玉峯 monastery. As with all kē outlines, the work’s primary function is pedagogical and navigational: it provides the structural skeleton of the larger treatise, enabling students to track its doctrinal articulation. Shīhuì’s particular kē of the Wǔ jiào zhāng preserves his own reading of the work’s structure — sometimes differing in minor structural divisions from 道亭 Dàotíng’s earlier reading.
The work is preserved in the Manji Xù zàng jīng 續藏經 (X997) collection.
