Wǔ jiào zhāng jí chéng jì 五教章集成記
Compilation Notes on the Treatise on the Five Teachings by 希迪 (Xīdí, 述)
About the work
This one-fascicle commentary on 法藏 Fǎzàng’s [[KR6e0074|Wǔ jiào zhāng 五教章]] (T1866) is by 希迪 Xīdí, the Southern Sòng Huìyīnsì 慧因寺 abbot. The jíchéng jì 集成記 (“compilation notes”) format is more synthetic and integrative than 師會 Shīhuì’s polemical Fù gǔ jì 復古記: rather than refuting 道亭 Dàotíng’s earlier readings, Xīdí’s commentary attempts to gather the best of multiple commentary traditions into a coherent reading.
Prefaces
The work is preceded by a Huáyán yī chéng jiào yì fēn qí zhāng jí chéng jì xù 華嚴一乘教義分齊章集成記序 (“Preface to the Compilation Notes on the Wǔ jiào zhāng”).
Abstract
The work is precisely datable per the DILA Authority entry (A000487) to Jiādìng 嘉定 11 (1218 CE), composed at the Wǔlín Huìyīnsì 武林慧因寺 when Xīdí was abbot. The bracket adopted here (1218 – 1218) reflects this exact dating. The doctrinal substance is a synthetic exposition of Fǎzàng’s Five Teachings schema drawing on the entire commentarial tradition (Dàotíng, Shīhuì, 善熹 Shànxī).
The work is preserved in the Manji Xù zàng jīng 續藏經 (X999) collection.

Other points of interest
- The Wǔlín 武林 / Hángzhōu 杭州 Huìyīnsì 慧因寺 where Xīdí worked was the same monastery that had been the centre of 淨源 Jìngyuán’s eleventh-century Huáyán project — providing a continuity of Huáyán-school learning at one of the most important Buddhist publishing centres of the Sòng dynasty.
