About the work
This 1-fascicle text by 曇無竭 Tánwújié is a Mahāyāna sūtra recounting the future Buddhahood of Guānshìyīn 觀世音 (Avalokiteśvara) — i.e. the Buddha’s prediction (shòujì / vyākaraṇa) that this most-venerated of bodhisattvas will eventually attain Buddhahood as Pǔguāng gōngdé Shānwáng Tathāgata 普光功德山王如來. The work is one of the principal scriptural foundations of the Avalokiteśvara cult in East Asian Buddhism.
