Wéimó jīng shū kē 維摩經疏科

Outline of the Commentary on the Vimalakīrti Sūtra (anonymous)

About the work

The Wéimó jīng shū kē (X0349) is a one-fascicle anonymous 科 (outline) of an unspecified Vimalakīrti commentary. The kē-text genre — outline-charts of a commentary’s structural divisions — was a standard pedagogical aid in late-Ming and Qīng Buddhist monastic education, accompanying the major commentaries.

Prefaces

The text opens directly with the outline structure (the surviving witness shows “維摩經疏科(二)” — “Vimalakīrti Commentary Outline, [Volume] 2”). No preface or colophon survives.

Abstract

The text is an outline-chart of a Vimalakīrti commentary, plausibly 傳燈 Chuándēng’s Wéimó jīng wúwǒ shū (KR6i0104 = X0348) given the proximity in catalog organization (X0349 follows X0348) and the chapter structure. It functions as a study guide for monastic students working through the longer commentary.

The catalog meta gives the dynasty as Ming; the text is undated and could equally belong to the early Qīng. The 1600–1700 bracket reflects the likely period of late-Ming/early-Qīng Tiantai pedagogical culture in which such outlines were produced.
