About the work
The Rúlái shìjiào shèngjūn wáng jīng (T515) is a one-fascicle Tang translation by 玄奘 Xuánzàng. The protagonist Shèngjūn wáng 勝軍王 (“King Conquering-Army”; Sanskrit Prasenajit) is the famous king of Kosala, longtime patron of the Buddha. The text is parallel to 施護 Shīhù’s later Fóshuō shèngjūn wáng suǒwèn jīng KR6i0146 (T516).

The text opens with the canonical formula. The colophon attributes translation to Xuánzàng of the Tang.
Abstract
A Mahāyāna text on the Buddha’s teaching to King Prasenajit on royal Buddhist conduct. Xuánzàng’s translation idiom (post-645 CE Cíēn-school polished Yogācāra Chinese) is evident. Translation falls within Xuánzàng’s post-return productive period (645–664 CE).
