About the work
T674 in two fascicles is 地婆訶羅’s Táng retranslation of the same Indic Mahāyāna-abhisamaya underlying T673 of 闍那耶舍. The alternate title Rù yīqiē fójìng zhì pílúzhēnàzàng jīng 入一切佛境智陪盧遮那藏經 (“Sūtra of Vairocana-storehouse on the Entry into the Wisdom of All-Buddha-Realm”) preserved in the source colophon parallels the alternate title of T673 — confirming that the two are translations of a single Indic original.
Abstract
The translation is unanimously ascribed to 地婆訶羅 (Divākara, 614–688). Date bracket follows his Cháng’ān productive period (Yífèng 儀鳳 era, 676 onward, until his death in 688). T674 is a slightly more polished and idiomatic Tang rendering of the Mahāyāna-abhisamaya programme that T673 had already given Chinese readers in the Northern Zhōu. The two together (and the lost Indic original) constitute one of the lesser but doctrinally coherent strands of the East Asian tathāgatagarbha literature.
