Léngqié jīng shū 楞伽經疏

Commentary on the Sūtra of Laṅkā anonymous

About the work

X322 in two fascicles is an anonymous Tang-period commentary on [[KR6i0327|Léngqiéābáduōluó bǎo jīng 楞伽阿跋多羅寶經]] (T670). The catalog meta has no author entry, and the witness preserved in the Xuzangjing is similarly without an attribution-line. The doctrinal vocabulary is consistent with the late-Tang or early-Sòng phase of Laṅkāvatāra commentary; the treatment of the yuánchéngshí 圓成實 (parispanna) and the wàngxiǎng zìxìng 妄想自性 (parikalpita) categories suggests a Yogācāra-influenced commentator active after 法藏 and the assimilation of 實叉難陀’s T672.

Abstract

The work is one of the few extant Tang-period anonymous Laṅkāvatāra commentaries, preserved only in the Wànzì Xuzangjing. Date bracket conservatively follows the Tang span, with a more probable concentration in the eighth or ninth century (700–900). The text is fragmentary: only a juànshàng portion is preserved in the Xuzangjing compilation, with the second fascicle either lost or never extant. The opening lemma — on the yuánchéngshí nature being free of being-and-non-being, with the wàngxiǎng (parikalpita) constructed-nature giving rise to the duality of being-and-non-being — is consistent with a Yogācāra-affiliated reading of the Laṅkāvatāra in the Cíēn 慈恩 tradition.
