Sūtra of the Buddha’s Speaking of the Highest-Esoteric Great-Teaching-King of the Vajra Three-Karma of All Tathāgatas (Skt. Sarvatathāgata-vajra-trikāya-mahā-guhya-paramatantra-rāja?) by 施護 (Dānapāla, 譯)

About the work

A seven-fascicle Sòng-period Esoteric translation by Dānapāla (施護) on the Esoteric Vajra-trikāya (the three Vajra-bodies / three Vajra-acts of body-speech-mind) doctrine. The text is one of Dānapāla’s substantial Vajra-tantra translations.

Abstract

The text presents an advanced yoga-uttara-tantra-class scripture organised around the doctrine of the Vajra Three-Karma (Jīngāng sānyè 金剛三業) — the Esoteric vajra-form of the standard Buddhist Three-Karma (body-speech-mind) framework, identified with the Three Mysteries (三密 sānmì) of Esoteric practice. The seven fascicles cover the doctrinal apparatus, the ritual practices, and the sādhana prescriptions for the Vajra Three-Karma yoga.

The translation dates from Dānapāla’s career at the Sòng Yìjīngyuàn (982–1017).
