A one-fascicle alternative recension of the Vajradhātu homa ritual manual under the same title as KR6j0079 (T908), preserved in the Taishō under T18n0909. The two recensions cover the same four-fold karman of homa practice but differ in the specific ritual prescriptions.
Abstract
The two-recension preservation of the Vajradhātu homa ritual manual (T908 and T909, both attributed to Amoghavajra and both bearing the identical title) suggests parallel ritual traditions or editorial reorganisations within the Tang Esoteric homa corpus. Both recensions remain canonical and were used in the Japanese Shingon homa tradition, where multiple recensions of the same ritual are preserved as legitimate variants.
The translation dates from Amoghavajra’s mature Chángān period (746–774).
