Xiū Yàoshī yíguǐ bùtán fǎ 修藥師儀軌布壇法

Method of Mandala-Construction for the Practice of the Bhaiṣajyaguru Ritual by 阿旺扎什 (Ngawang Tashi, 補譯)

About the work

A one-fascicle Qīng-period Tibetan-Esoteric ritual supplement translated by Ngawang Tashi (阿旺扎什) as a bǔyì 補譯 (“supplementary translation”) to fill a specific gap in the Chinese Bhaiṣajyaguru ritual corpus: the mandala-construction / altar-arrangement method (bùtán fǎ 布壇法) for the Bhaiṣajyaguru practice.

Abstract

The text gives the specific procedures for laying out the Bhaiṣajyaguru mandala-altar — the placement of the seven-Buddha images, the offerings, the implements (vajra and ghaṇṭā, water-vases, etc.), and the spatial arrangement consistent with the Tibetan canonical prescriptions. As bǔyì, the text supplements rather than replaces the existing Chinese Bhaiṣajyaguru ritual corpus (KR6j0093–0099). The translation dates from Ngawang Tashi’s documented Qiánlóng-period work (1736–1796).
