Pútíchǎng jīng lüèyì shì 菩提場經略義釋

Brief Doctrinal Explanation of the Bodhi-Maṇḍa Sūtra (Jp. Bodaijō-gyō ryakugi-shaku) by 圓珍 Yuánzhēn (Enchin, 撰)

About the work

A five-fascicle commentary by Enchin (圓珍) on the Bodhi-Maṇḍa Sūtra — i.e., the Pútíchǎng suǒshuō yīzì dǐnglúnwáng jīng (KR6j0124, T19n0950) — Amoghavajra’s Esoteric scripture on the One-Syllable Crown-Wheel-King.

Abstract

Enchin’s commentary is the principal Heian Tendai-Esoteric (Taimitsu) treatment of the One-Syllable Crown-Wheel-King practice, integrating the Buddhoṣṇīṣa-cakra-rāja tradition with the broader Tendai-Esoteric doctrinal apparatus. The five-fascicle scope is substantial — comparable to Enchin’s other major commentaries.

The composition dates from Enchin’s post-Táng period at Onjō-ji (858–891).
