One-Mudrā Recitation Method of the Heart-Mantra of Avalokiteśvara by 不空 (Amoghavajra, 譯)
About the work
A short Esoteric ritual manual by Amoghavajra (不空) presenting the one-mudrā (一印, i.e. abbreviated single-mudrā) form of the Avalokiteśvara heart-mantra recitation. The yīyìn (“one-mudrā”) format is a deliberately abbreviated practice-form designed for daily liturgical use or for practitioners not yet ready for the full Esoteric aṣṭa-mudrā maṇḍala procedures.
Abstract
The yīyìn niànsòng fǎ (one-mudrā recitation method) is one of Amoghavajra’s recurring formats — a stripped-down ritual procedure using a single principal mudrā and the heart-mantra alone, suitable for routine daily liturgy or for practitioners who have not yet undergone full abhiṣeka (consecration) into the Vajraśekhara maṇḍala. The text accompanies the more extensive Avalokiteśvara ritual manuals (KR6j0228–KR6j0231, KR6j0238) as the abbreviated practice-form of the same liturgical tradition. This format-pairing is characteristic of Amoghavajra’s compositional method.
