About the work
The third anonymous Eastern-Jìn variant of the Liùzì (six-syllable) dhāraṇī tradition. Together with KR6j0242 (T1044) and KR6j0243–KR6j0244 (T1045A/B), this text completes the cluster of pre-Tang Chinese translations of the ṣaḍ-akṣarī-vidyā tradition.
Abstract
This recension’s distinguishing feature is the substitution of dà tuóluóní zhòu 大陀羅尼呪 (“great dhāraṇī-spell”) for the shénzhòuwáng 神呪王 (“divine spell-king”) of T1045A/B and the zhòuwáng 呪王 (“spell-king”) of T1044 — a terminological variant that may reflect a slightly later redaction in which the tuóluóní (dhāraṇī) terminology had become more widespread relative to the older zhòu (spell) idiom.
