A short one-fascicle ritual-method (法) for the Cundī-dhāraṇī translated by Śubhakarasiṃha (善無畏). The text complements the Cundī sūtra-translations by Divākara (KR6j0284), Vajrabodhi (KR6j0282), and Amoghavajra (KR6j0283) with a focused practitioner’s manual. The work also bears the rubric dúbù biéxíng 獨部別行 — “the separately-circulating kalpa of the [Cundī] section” — placing it as a Cundī-section ritual within the broader Vajra-śekhara / Mahāvairocana maṇḍala framework.
Abstract
The text gives the Cundī-dhāraṇī preceded by a short narrative invocation and followed by the practitioner’s procedure: visualisation of the deity, recitation count, mudrā-positions, and the karma-mantra for various ritual applications (śānti / pacification, puṣṭi / nourishment, vaśīkaraṇa / subjugation, abhicāra / hostile-magic). Śubhakarasiṃha’s rendering preserves the older Tang transliteration conventions (with relatively fewer 二合 compound graphs than the later Amoghavajra texts) and represents the Mahāvairocana-school approach to the Cundī cult — distinct from but consonant with the Vajra-śekhara approach of Vajrabodhi and Amoghavajra.
