Fó shuō Dàjíxiáng tiānnǚ shíèr mínghào jīng 佛說大吉祥天女十二名號經
Sūtra of the Twelve Names of the Great Auspicious Goddess, Spoken by the Buddha (parallel rendering) by 不空 (Bùkōng, Amoghavajra, 譯)
About the work
A second one-fascicle parallel rendering of the same Mahāśrīsūtra material treated above in KR6j0480 (T1252a). Both renderings are attributed to Amoghavajra (不空) and bear the identical title, but they differ in textual detail. T1252b reflects the line of transmission in 【大】【大→宋】【大→元】【大→明】 (the principal printed Tripiṭaka witnesses); T1252a reflects an alternate witness in CBETA (likely from a single manuscript or block-printed edition).
Abstract
The same Twelve-Names structure as T1252a, with variations in: (a) the transliteration of the Sanskrit names; (b) the Chinese-glossed translations of certain epithets; (c) some details of the rite-explanation. As with most parallel-recension pairs in the Esoteric corpus, both were retained because the Indian recensions diverged enough that one could not stand for the other. Date: Amoghavajra’s Chángān activity, 746–774.
